Visit our popular surroundings

Somerset West is centrally located with Cape Town, Table Mountain and the V&A Waterfront less than an hours’ drive away. Stellenbosch and its wine route are 20 kilometres away with the Strand beachfront a mere 5 kilometres where you’ll find a promenade and facilities for surfing, paddle boarding and fishing. The next town over is Gordon’s Bay that boasts a marina with restaurants and the famous blue-flag Bikini Beach. The Helderberg Nature Reserve and Helderberg wine route is right on the Somerset West’s doorstep. Go for a hike in the mountains or travel by road and enjoy some of the Cape’s finest wines.

Eat Out

If you’re after a spectacular view with cuisine to match, try Steffanie’s Place in Irene Avenue in town. Henri’s is another popular eatery that combines an inspired menu with a casually sophisticated setting in a heritage house. Opa is where you want to go for Greek cuisine, with those for a taste for red meat spoiled for choice. Steak restaurants in the area include Hussar Grill, Turn & Tender and Cattle Baron. For Italian, try Al Dente or Casa Bella and if you’re craving cake and a coffee go to Chatters, Sage & Thyme; Fred & Max; Legacy Café or Merkava where you can see coffee beans roasting while you sip your favourite brew.

Explore the Wine Routes

Three world-renowned wine farms await to be discovered – all within Somerset West. Start with Vergelegen which was founded in 1700 by Willem van der Stel and has been nominated as a serial World Heritage Site. In addition to award-winning wine, Vergelegen has on its grounds what is believed to be the oldest oak tree in South Africa. Next, you’ll want to pay a visit to Lourensford where you’ll find The Coffee Roasting and the Millhouse Kitchen, not to mention fine wine paired with chocolate for a specialised tasting. Last and far from least is Morgenster with a cellar more than three centuries old.

Play a Round (or Two) of Golf

Erinvale is Somerset West’s premier golf course and has played host to a number of international championships. The Somerset West Country Club is right in the heart of town with greens and fairways that are most certainly nothing to scoff. By the seaside you’ll find the popular Strand Golf Course where your skills in the wind will be tested. And if you’d like to improve your swing there’s a well-equipped Vodacom Driving Range right next to The Sanctuary Shopping Centre.
